About
Hello, I am John Barrow.
What I am going to do in this blog is to give you information that will
- Help you have a healthier life, our bodies are constantly bombarded with toxins of every sort. Generally speaking our nutrition leaves much to be desired, the air we breathe, the water we drink, all have a major impact on our daily lives. This impact can carry over to our business, if you are healthier you tend to be more focused.
- Tools for your business, every business has some necessary tools, and some others that may not be necessary, but can enhance your business, making it run more efficiently and grow faster.
- Recommend programs that I believe are worth looking at, who they are best suited to, and why I like them.
In this economy, there are increasing numbers of people looking for more stability than a traditional job may not offer.
First a little about me.
I am a proud father of 2 grown children, grandfather of 2, and a husband for almost 29 years. I will be 52 this year, but I feel that I’m getting younger in a way, maybe it’s the grand-kids.
I am about to start my 25th year owning my own landscaping company. While it has been both lucrative and fun, after knee and shoulder surgery it may be the last year.
The first 18 years of landscaping, I also worked a full-time job, so 9 months a year I worked on average 85 hours to a high of 104 hours in one week back in 1996. During this time we were also in a networking company.
My wife and I decided when we had children that we didn’t want a day care to raise them, she was a new teacher then. We thought that when the kids got to be school age, she would return to teaching. So having landscaping experience, I decided to start my own business. We also had an elderly aunt living with us, when the kids got to school age, my wife ended up taking care of her aunt.
The decision we made for my wife to stay home to raise our children, was the right one, the kids are fantastic. I did not realize the price that I would pay, 5-6 days a week I left for work before they got up in the morning, and got home about a half hour after dark. I missed out on seeing my own children grow up, several months a year.
Why do I tell you this? Simple, this is my WHY No parent should work so much that they miss seeing thier children grow up. This is a regret I will have for the rest of my life. If I can help any parent, mother or father, be able to spend more time at home, that’s GREAT.
In today’s economy, people need more income, more stability. People have lost retirement money, and have to work later in life. Unemployment is out of control, double-digits in my own state (RI). Starting your own business is a positive move that can, if done properly, with a viable company can be a huge help.
Anyway, I hope to give you some good information, that will help you in your quest in building your own business.
