A Healthy Life and Business

If you lack confidence, you either lack training, coaching and experience or you could simply be in the wrong type of business.

Once someone completely trusts you, you can sell him almost anything at any
price.  Never abuse that trust, or it will be gone forever!

Master the basics and the complicated becomes uncomplicated.  Seems simple but the ‘basics’ is your foundation.

Most people decide quit right before they are about to experience success. Obviously, not knowing success is just around the bend.  Don’t be one of them.  Keep on pushing, you can do it!

 I would like to recommend a book this week,  The 4-Hour Work Week,  by Timothy Ferriss  The 4-Hour Work Week explains what a lifestyle entrepreneur is and why you should want to become one.  I have this on audio, and is a great listen.

Here are this weeks tips for networkers

Prospecting Mistakes

Be Focused and prepared.  .  When you are scheduling time to make a prospecting call, be prepared.  Know exactly what you are going to say to your prospect and what direction you are going to guide them for the next step.  You should have a game plan.  Get focused, no distractions such as TV, email or anything else that will    distract you from your prospect, they are your main focus!

Also, if you are sick, or in a foul mood, take the day off from making calls, your prospect will be able to tell.  No one wants to work with somebody who comes across a being miserable, first impressions!

Be Honest   You will occasionally get questions that you don’t know the answers to.  Many distributors will try to fake it when this happens, don’t do it, simply let them know that you’ll get the answer and get back to them.

This will do two things, first it will show your prospect that they do not have to know everything to get started in business, that they can get questions answered as needed, they have support.  Second, it gives you a good opportunity to do a three-way call, don’t ask permission, simply ask them to hold on, you know somebody that can answer that question.

Money Questions  Again, here be honest, do not exaggerate or lie about potential earnings, and never show a prospect a check.  Many distributors and companies have gotten in legal trouble here, not worth it.

No Trashing  Don’t disrespect other companies or people from other companies.  It is not about them, it’s about your company and you, if you can’t promote you and your company’s merits without bashing another company, maybe you are in the wrong company.

Do not stop prospecting, you are the leader, if you stop prospecting your group will do the same.  Be the example!

If you have been in business for even a short while, you have probably had the opportunity to deal with a customer that wasn’t happy.  You know the type, either the dinner was not quite right, or the service wasn’t fast enough, whatever, their world just might end because you didn’t completely satisfy their needs. 

You know the type, and many times they are habitual complainers, the type that when you see them you let out a sigh!  What a drain they can be.  I’ve been in business the best part of three decades; yes I have seen my share.  What I’ve done is to almost make it a game, believe me I always try to get everything right the first time, but occasionally something happens.

Now if this is a ‘habitual complainer’, many times they want to argue and be abusive to you or your staff.  The best way to avoid this is to ‘kill them with kindness’, don’t argue sympathize.  First thank them for bringing the problem to your attention, apologize for any inconvenience, and be willing to make it right.  You must say this with complete sincerity.

Usually, when you approach the person like this it will disarm them; it is hard to argue with somebody that is giving you sympathy and understanding.  They were looking to make a scene, but if you show that you are reasonable, they generally will be also.  I know you’re thinking that customer is wrong.  Yes they may be, but put yourself in their position, think about it.

Now if the customer is abusive of you or your staff even after trying to calmly resolve the situation, simply tell them their attitude is unacceptable and you don’t need their business.  That will get attention.
 
The best book I have ever read on human interaction and communication was written by Dale Carnegie, titled “How to Win Friends & Influence People”

I strongly recommend it, especially for business people, whether you are a one person business or work for a large corporation.

Every Tuesday I post some tips for networkers.  These are generic in nature, and can be used in many other occupations.

 Make friends to make friends.  If you try to make ‘friends’ with people just to get their business, you will end up with little of both.  I have many friends that do business with me, I also have many that don’t, but they all know what business I am in.

I do tell everybody what I’m up to, what products, services and so on that I offer, that’s just good business.  However I don’t try to recruit them.  Friends share with each other, when they ask questions they express interest.  I will then give them the info they are interested in, perhaps offer to show them my opportunity.  But at their pace.

 Do not try to ‘fire hose’ your friends, friends are too valuable, if they have interest they will let you know.

Keep it Simple - Don’t Overanalyze.  I have found that it is easy to spend too much time thinking about what to do.  ‘Just do something’, I tell myself, action is needed.  A mentor of mine told me to use A - C - A - A

Action  Take action, do something

Critique  Look at the results.  Preferably with sponsor / mentor

Adjust   Make small adjustments, based on desired results.

Action   Take action again.  With these small adjustments.

This is simple, should be done frequently, only spend a few minutes on the critique, and don’t change too quickly.

 Technology vs People Skills  Having technological skills are important, no doubt.  With sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and dozens more, technology is easier to handle.  However having people skills is immensely important, and often overlooked.  You must develop leadership, and relationships to build a large, solid team.

 This is where personal development is important.  Books like ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’ by David Schwartz and Dale Carnegie’s classic ‘How To Win Friends and Influence People’ are two of my favorites.

FEAR - The GREAT MOTIVATOR

What motivates you?  Stop and think about it, what does it take to really motivate you.

For most people it is not as easy as it sounds. Many people find themselves motivated by failure.  They are afraid that they might fail at a new endeavor, be it a job or a new business opportunity.  Many times so severely that they become paralyzed to the point of inaction, so they don’t even try.

Other people are also motivated by fear; in this case it is fear of loosing something, such as money, job, or in today’s economy their house.  In this case fear is good and can be a good motivator to get a better job, or start a new business.  Or to finally take action in that business you have been “trying out”

The Fear of Success, yes the fear of success!  At first that sounds strange doesn’t it?  How can anybody be afraid to succeed at something? 

Well it is real, and to some people, just as paralyzing. They may think “I don’t deserve success” or “I’m not good enough” and not even try.  Many of us, while we were growing up constantly heard negative connotations about money, and the people that had money.  Sub consciously we have been programmed to think that way, “MONEY IS EVIL”

What do we do to change this way of thinking?  Look around, think of all the good things you can do with money, not only for your family, but church, charities, the list goes on.

I have found that spending time daily on self-improvement is a great way to start.  Invest in yourself, there are fantastic dividends to be paid.  There are so many books on the subject, I would start will some of the classics, such as ‘Think and Grow Rich’ by Napoleon Hill.  Many times while I’m driving I’ll turn off the radio and listen to audiobooks, a good way to consolidate time.

Spend some time to find out what your fears are, only them can you face them, and conquer them, and receive what you truly deserve SUCCESS!
