The Festive Season has Been and Gone…Did You Add Some Unwanted Pounds?

January 14th, 2010

Well now the festive season has been and gone it’s time to get on with the new year.  But did you add some unwanted pounds with all the merriment?  Not that there’s anything wrong with that, that’s what Christmas is all about and should be enjoyed with no regrets.

So first things first, a look at your mindset about those added pounds and how to reduce them.  We have forgotten how powerful our minds are, and without realising it our brains are overlooked when it comes to using tools available to us; the mind is our most powerful tool which a lot of us never seem to use.  We think about getting rid of our stomach fat, losing weight, ponder on the best program or diet but not often engage that which we’re thinking with to help.  What’s that old saying; “Ask and ye shall receive”.  Unfortunately a lot of us have been conditioned to think negatively so changing that can be a challenge, But it’s not impossible and with the power of the mind we can achieve!

Weight Loss doesn’t have to be about going without, in fact that can hinder your progress rather than help it.  All the fancy fad diets that tell you to stop eating this and that, are not doing you any favours at all, our desperation in wanting to lose weight encourages us to seek the “next best thing” and if the sales letter/person/ad is good we believe it.  We don’t stop to think about what our bodies need daily in order to run efficiently.  Consequently we go from one fad diet to the next as we keep slipping back into our old eating habits because we’re not giving our bodies the nutrients etc required.

The best thing we can do for ourselves, is change our lifestyle and if that takes a little while, that’s fine.  Changing how and what we are eating is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. :-)

Weight Loss and Dieting on a Budget

January 18th, 2010

This time of the year can mean a bit of a struggle for some folk.  Holidays have just been and getting back to work and having to wait for the next paycheck can bring lean times.  If you are wanting to lose that stomach fat from the festive season but don’t think you can do it because of the cost here are a few tips that may help.

1. Eliminate Junk Food

That’s not just fast food, that’s also the ‘packets of chippies’, ice cream and lollies that sneak into the trolley at the grocery store.  Instead grab a few pieces of fruit and vegetables.  These can be cut up and used as snacks.  Find a recipe book that has a healthy dip recipe, or research online and use that with them.  It’s amazing how far a few pieces can go when cut into snack size, and better still it’s healthy and will aid in your weight loss efforts.

2. Cut Out or Down on Soft Drinks

Use water or milk instead of soft drinks, if you’re going with water but find it hard to drink try adding some  flavour to it, a piece of lemon, some mint or lime.  If you are not lactose intolerant then milk is a good substitute, it provides calcium and other nutrients that are beneficial to your body.  Soft drinks are sugar loaded and that stomach fat you so desperately want to lose won’t go anywhere.  Did you realise that stomach fat is the worst fat to have?

3. Buy Fresh Fruits and Vegetables in Quantity

When they are in season buy or grow your own.  If you buy and can do it in bulk when they are in season and at their cheapest then you can freeze them for later use.  This will in the long run cut down on expenses.

4. Using Beans as a Substitute

Sometimes we eat more meat than are bodies require, try substituting beans instead of meat for some of your meals.  They are full of protein and easy to prepare, you could even prepare them in a crockpot so your meal is ready for you when you get home.

5. Fresh Fish and a Great Day Out

Do you live somewhere that you can go fishing once in a while.  Fish is great, with plenty of “goodies” that the body loves. Fishing can make for a fun day out as well, take a picnic basket along and relax for the day while catching your own fresh fish for tea.

There are other great ideas out there when looking to lower the grocery bill, if you do some research I’m sure you’ll find lots of recipes that you can use with these tips.  Weight Loss doesn’t have to be boring, expensive or as rigid as some may suggest.  Have fun, start a vege garden; even if it has to be a small one, you never know you might even enjoy it!
